How to Clean Silver
Keeping your silver jewelry, utensils, and décor shiny is easy with the right cleaning methods. Follow these simple steps to remove tarnish and restore its brilliance.
Method 1: Baking Soda and Aluminum Foil (Best for Heavily Tarnished Silver)
Line a Bowl with Aluminum Foil – Place shiny side up in a glass or plastic bowl.
Add Hot Water – Pour in enough hot (not boiling) water to cover the silver items.
Mix in Baking Soda – Add 1 tablespoon of baking soda per cup of water.
Soak the Silver – Place silver items in the solution, making sure they touch the aluminum foil. Let them sit for 5–10 minutes.
Rinse and Dry – Remove the silver, rinse with clean water, and dry with a soft cloth.
Method 2: Toothpaste (For Quick Spot Cleaning)
Apply a small amount of non-gel, white toothpaste to a soft cloth or toothbrush.
Gently rub the silver in circular motions to remove tarnish.
Rinse with warm water and dry thoroughly.
Method 3: Vinegar and Baking Soda (For Stubborn Tarnish)
Place the silver in a bowl and cover it with ½ cup white vinegar.
Add 2 tablespoons of baking soda (it will fizz).
Let it sit for 2–3 hours.
Rinse with water and polish with a soft cloth.
💡 Pro Tip: Store silver in anti-tarnish cloth or bags to prevent tarnishing.
